Kevin.Murphy Color.Me

Hey guys, Long time no write! Sorry about that. I get side tracked (for like a year sometimes) but I'm back! I've decided to take the giant leap, head first, into a new color line. And I could be happier that I did!!!

There's a handful of my clients who have become more sensitive to color in the last few years. I've been trying to find something that is gentle yet vibrant and luminous. People. It's here.

Kevin.Murphy has launched their answer to all our color woes. Color.Me was introduced to the US this past May, and i think I'm in love. I'm usually a tried and true girl myself. I'm always open to the cool new thing, but it's got to do a lot of convincing to actually get me to jump on board and ditch old faithful. More often then not I'm let down by the hype. The Hair industry is a constant evolution, and you have to sift through the gimmicky stuff (which there's tons of) to get to the gems.

Did I mention it's ammonia, PPD, and paraben free?! Plus it's full of naturally derived ingredients including honey, aloe, shea butter, pomegranate, and a ton of other good stuff too! So, out with the old stuff that makes your eyes water, your head itch, burn, flake, scab, and all that other terrible nonsense. And in with the shiny, nourishing, color rich goodness.

Working hard, or hardly working?

Aloha! This post comes to you from my work trip last week. Ughhh Kauai!!! (Just kidding. Please take me back!!!)

There are so many things I want to get into. Starting with my awesome client and Bride- Kristy, to doing wedding hair for seven a in a hurricane. I mean come on Iselle. Really!?!  I'm also going to blab on about products used, books read, haircuts overlooking the pacific, my oceanic inspired mani. Aaaaand all the wonderful things that come from works trips. Uuh hello sleeping in!!!

My oceanic inspired mani. From the talented Sarah Bland

Well first I'll start this out with a little shout out to my wonderful client, bride, and friend, Kristy Chang. Let me correct that- the wonderful Mrs. Kristy O'fallon! Thanks for choosing this awesome location. ( I know you were solely thinking of me when making this decision.) Kristy was one of the coolest brides ever on her wedding day. With hurricane Iselle literally raining on her parade, she never once stressed or panicked. This girl kept her cool all the way to the I do's and loooooong after. So ladies, take notes. if this girl can deal with a freaking hurricane on her wedding you need to step up your game!!!

I had like 8 hours of hair ahead of me before the ceremony. With all the humidity and a damn hurricane threatening all my hairstyle fantasies, I thought that I'd start by locking these girls curls down as much as possible. With the help of a bottle or two of moroccan oil's humidity resistant hairspray and my go-to hottools marcel irons, I went back to my beauty school roots and churned out some good old fashioned roller sets. I love that I got this sweet little shot of Kristy and all her ladies giggling in their roller sets.  With a ton of bobby pins and some braiding skills I whipped some bridal styles together.

Kristy and her ladies.

Cut to 8 hours later... Iselle finally got tired and chilled on the rain sesh. That was our cue! Just as the bride dreamed, Kristy Chang married her forever, Mr. Patrick O'fallon. And wow, one of the most intimate and beautiful weddings I have ever attended. With the staff scared of chairs getting blown away and knocking old ladies down, we all stood. I should say we pretty much football huddled during this little love fest. I think it made things even more magical, you could just feel all the love.

After that it's all a blur. As I will assure you I didn't really have a hangover (at least an alcohol induced one) I'll call it a hair hangover. Still, it gave me the perfect excuse to lay in bed ALL day and do two of my favorite things, sleep and read. Let me tell you, I am damn good at them too!!! On my flight in I started the most satirically wonderful books I've read in a long time. Crazy Rich Asians, by Kevin Kwan. I felt like I was an addict, sneaking away to read a chapter or two about these insanely wealthy bitches trying to ruin lives. I just couldn't read enough to get my fix. It was heaven! Well, I pretty much overdosed and came to just in time to give one last haircut overlooking the pacific, pack up, and board my flight home the next day.

Peace out Hawaii. What else can I say? It's been real. Did I say I love my job?
